When Buttermilk arrived at ADL, she was emaciated, heartworm positive, and had a severely broken leg. There was a large mass on her chest and another on her hind leg. She also had pyometra, a potentially fatal infection of the uterus that occurs in unspayed females. Our first cat from the Rockport trip was adopted yesterday! Meet Gulliver Beanie! He is a 3-year-old sweet, friendly beagle mix. He is an incredibly kind and loving dog who enjoys to wonder and play with his toys. Sebastian is a 5 month old pup transferred from Animal Care Services to our shelter. We wanted to share his amazing before and after photos! When this little guy arrived he was severely infested with ticks and fleas. This could have easily been prevented with monthly tick/flea preventatives. This sweet girl is Phyllis, and she came to ADL weighing .07 pounds with a HUGE swollen front paw that looked like something had been wrapped around it. The paw was cold and devitalized. Our amazing veterinarian team performed the operation and amputated her front leg. Phyllis is the smallest and youngest pet that has received an amputation in ADL's history. Champion was brought to the Animal Defense League by a Good Samaritan after he was hit by a car. At just a few months old, Champion was having difficulty breathing and was in extreme distress. Our medical team quickly realized that Champion’s lungs had collapsed due to a build-up of air around his lungs and they couldn’t expand to allowing Champion to breathe properly. Meet Diana! Diana is a 4-year-old, female, pit bull mix that arrived at ADL from Animal Care Services. When she first arrived, our veterinary team noticed that she was warm. It is tough for us to see a pet that has only been on this earth for a short time be in this bad of shape.
