Roll’s Story

Meet Roll — A Pup with a Heart as Big as His Smile

Roll, lovingly known as Rollie Pollie, is an 8-month-old Shepherd-Terrier mix who’s been in our care since November 2024. With his permanently peeking tongue and that irresistible goofy grin, Roll is the kind of pup who makes you smile the moment you see him. But what truly sets him apart isn’t what’s on the outside—it’s his unbreakable spirit.

When Rollie first arrived at ADL, he was fighting for his life. He was just a tiny pup battling both parvo and distemper—two aggressive, often deadly illnesses. Heartbreakingly, he was the only one in his litter to survive.

But survive he did—and now, Roll is thriving.

Distemper left its mark, causing a subtle muscle twitch and damage to his enamel that makes his tongue adorably hang out. But it never touched his joy, his heart, or his will to live. If anything, it made his light shine even brighter.

Roll is pure sunshine in dog form. He’s cuddly, playful, and absolutely loves water, car rides, and long walks. He’s a gentleman on the leash—and a bit of a ladies’ man too.

One of our team members often brings him home for social visits, where he’s learning all the best manners from her calm senior dog. “He walks right beside her, always looking up for approval,” says ADL Associate Veterinarian Amanda Preczewski, DVM, MPH. “He just wants to be a good boy.”

Roll’s journey is one of grit, healing, and boundless love. Now, all he needs is a forever home—a place to keep growing, exploring, and being celebrated for the bright soul he is.

He’s got his quirks (he actually enjoys bath time!) and his favorite thing in the world is soft kibble and a big water bowl to dunk his whole face in. Whether he’s snoozing in a sunbeam or soaking in every second of your attention, Roll lives life with joy, gratitude, and that signature sparkle in his eye.

He may remember being sick, but it doesn’t define him. Roll is gentle. He’s grateful. And he’s living proof that even the toughest beginnings can lead to the most beautiful lives.

Now, he just needs someone to say “yes” to forever.

Roll’s story wouldn’t have been possible without our medical team—and without you.
