La historia de Roll
Roll is a one year old Shepherd-Terrier mix who came into our care in November 2024 and quickly stole the hearts of everyone he met. With his permanently peeking tongue and irresistible goofy grin, Roll was the kind of pup who made you smile instantly. But what truly set him apart wasn’t just his looks—it was his unbreakable spirit.
When Rollie first arrived at ADL, he was fighting for his life. Just a tiny puppy, he was battling both parvo and distemper—two aggressive, often deadly illnesses. Heartbreakingly, Roll was the only survivor of his litter.
But survive he did—and today, Roll is thriving in his forever home, surrounded by love, comfort, and the family he always deserved.
Distemper left its mark, causing a subtle muscle twitch and some enamel damage that gives him his signature tongue-out smile. But it never touched his joy, his heart, or his will to live. If anything, it made his light shine even brighter.
While in our care, Roll proved to be pure sunshine in dog form—cuddly, playful, and always ready for adventure. He loved water, car rides, and long walks, and he was a true gentleman on leash (with a bit of a ladies’ man streak, too). One of our team members often brought him home for social visits, where he learned excellent manners from her calm senior dog. “He walks right beside her, always looking up for approval,” shared ADL Associate Veterinarian Amanda Preczewski, DVM, MPH. “He just wants to be a good boy.”
That sweet, eager-to-please nature helped Roll find the perfect match—and now, he’s settled in beautifully with his new family, continuing to grow, explore, and soak up every bit of love headed his way. From dunking his face into a big water bowl to snoozing in sunbeams, Roll is living life exactly as a happy, cherished dog should.
Roll’s journey is one of grit, healing, and boundless love—and it has the happy ending he fought so hard for. He may remember being sick, but it doesn’t define him. Roll is gentle. He’s grateful. And he’s living proof that even the toughest beginnings can lead to the most beautiful lives.
Roll’s story wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated medical team—and without you.
