La historia del Capitán Crunch
Meet Captain Crunch: From Broken to Beautiful
When Capitán Crunch was first found, he was barely hanging on. Though cared for as a community cat and offered regular meals from a distance, it was clear something was terribly wrong. This two‑year‑old, green‑eyed gentleman kept losing weight and growing weaker by the day.
Because of a compassionate Good Samaritan who participates in ADL’s Community Cat Trap‑Neuter‑Return (TNR) program, Captain Crunch was not forgotten. She had been doing everything she could for the cats in her neighborhood, many of whom are neglected and left to fend for themselves. When she realized Captain Crunch needed more help than she could provide, she made the loving decision to bring him to ADL so he could receive the care he urgently needed.
Our medical team stepped in immediately and quickly saw just how critical his condition was. Captain Crunch was frail, starving, and covered in feces. At just 4.5 pounds, he was severely underweight and felt “crunchy” to the touch due to neglect and illness. He had a wound on his right hip, a painful abscess on his neck that later ruptured, severe congestion that made breathing difficult, and painful mouth ulcers caused by calicivirus. It was clear his body had been through so much.
And yet, from the very start, Captain Crunch showed everyone his gentle spirit.
Despite everything, he leaned into care, patiently accepted treatments, and never missed a chance to make biscuits. Our veterinary team began intensive treatment right away, providing antibiotics, antiviral medication, breathing treatments, and more than two weeks of dedicated wound care. Because he desperately needed to gain weight, Captain Crunch was offered a constant buffet of food. To everyone’s delight, he never turned down a meal.
Slowly and steadily, with consistent medical care, patience, and compassion, Captain Crunch began to heal.
Today, he is almost unrecognizable from the fragile pet who first arrived at ADL. He now weighs 8.87 pounds, nearly double his intake weight. His coat is soft and full, his eyes are bright, and his affectionate personality shines through. He is a full‑time biscuit maker who loves showing off for the very staff who helped give him a second chance. Captain Crunch has found a loving forever home, where he is finally able to relax, heal fully, and be cherished the way he always deserved.
Captain Crunch’s journey is a powerful reminder of what is possible when a caring community works together. From the TNR caregiver who refused to look away to ADL’s medical team, donors, and supporters who made his treatment possible, every step of his recovery was a shared effort.
This is exactly why Fondo médico de emergencia Paws for a Cause exists. It allows ADL to step in when pets like Captain Crunch need urgent, specialized care and to keep going until they are strong enough for whatever comes next.
