Paw-sitively Prepared: Choosing the Best Tools for Training

Helpful Training Gear

Harnesses
🐾   Front-Clip Harness – Helps prevent pulling by turning your dog toward you.
🐾   Back-Clip Harness – Great for small dogs or those who don’t pull.
🐾   Head Halters – Helps control strong pullers by guiding their head gently.

Muzzles
🐾   Basket Muzzle – Allows dogs to breathe, drink, and take treats safely.
🐾   Cloth Muzzle – For short-term use during grooming or emergencies.

Collars and Leashes
🐾   Martingale Collar – Tightens slightly when pulled, preventing slipping.
🐾   Standard Leash (4-6 ft.) – Best for everyday walks and training.
🐾   Long Line – Great for practicing recall and off-leash skills.

Extra Tools for Training and Safety

Crates – Help prevent undesirable habits when you can’t supervise.
Tethers– Give your dog a “job” to focus their energy under supervision.
Emergency Tools – Items like air horns or spray bottles can help in emergencies but should be used carefully.

Best Training Methods

DO:
✅ Positive Reinforcement – Reward good behavior with treats or praise!
✅ Clicker Training – Uses a “click” sound to mark the exact moment your dog does something right.

DON’T:
❌ Avoid Harsh Tools – Prong collars, choke chains, and shock collars can cause fear and stress.

With the right tools and a lot of love, training can be fun and rewarding for both you and your pup!
