McNugget’s Story

At just six months old, this tiny Labrador mix has already been through so much. When McNugget arrived at ADL as a stray earlier this year, she struggled to breathe, coughed constantly, and tired easily. Our veterinary team quickly discovered that she wasn’t just fighting a passing illness; she was likely living with a lifelong condition called congenital pulmonary emphysema, which causes her lungs to work differently than most dogs.

Even so, McNugget never let it dim her light. Through weeks of medications, breathing treatments, and foster care, she greeted everyone with gentle tail wags and big, trusting eyes. She’s shown us what it means to be resilient.

With each meal, her ribs softened under a healthy layer of muscle. Her eyes brightened, and her playful puppy spirit began to shine through. She’s curious, playful, and happiest when she’s close to the people she loves. As Lead PSS, Anel Jorge, says, “She’s a friendly and spunky girl. She likes to play with her toys and also be by your side. I’m sure she’s a cuddle bug too — total puppy.”

McNugget’s journey has been possible thanks to community donations that allow us to provide medical care, diagnostic testing, and the care and comfort of a loving foster home.

The team at ADL cheered her on through every milestone—from her first confident walk around the play yard to the joyful leaps that soon followed. Staff and volunteers couldn’t help but fall in love with her brave heart and gentle nature.

And now, the best news of all—McNugget has found her forever home! ❤️

Today, she’s soaking up cuddles, playing with her new family, and finally living the carefree puppy life she always deserved. The once-fragile pup who needed help to survive now greets every day with strength, joy, and a happy tail that never stops wagging.
