Swim’s Story
Meet Swim: From Parvo to Playtime
When Swim and her family arrived at ADL in July, they were fighting an uphill battle to survive. Swim, her mom Splash, and her littermates all tested positive for parvo, a dangerous and often deadly virus. Several became critically ill, but thanks to ADL’s veterinary team and our foster volunteers, every single one made it through.
Swim’s fight didn’t end there. She became dangerously anemic and needed a blood transfusion to survive, and her lifesaving donor came from her very own mom. After that, she faced another challenge: a distemper diagnosis. Her foster family refused to give up on her. “After all she’d been through, there was no way we were going to let her stay in a kennel,” her foster mom said.
Now known as Marley, this once-fragile puppy is thriving. Her foster describes her as a “funny little thing” who loves water, ice cubes, squeaky toys, and rolling over for belly rubs. “She was so sick and scared at first,” her foster shared. “Now she’s full of life and excited to see us every morning, running through the yard, and learning that the world isn’t so scary after all.”
For Marley’s foster family, helping her heal has been just as meaningful. “We do medical fosters because it’s what we love,” her foster mom said. “It’s our job to make the puppy ready for a home, and watching them get better fills your heart in a way nothing else can.”
And now, Swim is ready to find her furever home! ❤️
