Amora’s Story
Meet Amora: Proof That Tiny Can Still Be Mighty
When Amora first arrived at ADL, she was a fragile little shadow of what a puppy should be. Weighing less than three pounds, she was gasping for air, too weak to stand, and facing more medical battles than most pups survive—severe pneumonia, dehydration, anemia, worms, ticks, and a life-threatening condition called megaesophagus, which makes it nearly impossible to swallow food without inhaling it.
Her X-rays told a sobering story: her throat and stomach were so swollen that breathing and eating were exhausting, dangerous tasks. But while her small body was struggling, her spirit was anything but weak. Amora didn’t give up—and neither did we.
From her first day with us, she received emergency treatment, round-the-clock monitoring, and specialized upright feedings to help her swallow safely. Just as importantly, she was placed in a loving foster home, where she could heal surrounded by comfort and care.
And little by little, Amora began to turn a corner.
Within one week, she could stand on her own. Within two weeks, her tail was wagging. Soon, she was exploring her foster home, her eyes brighter, her steps steadier, and her determination unshakable.
“Amora’s a fighter—she doesn’t just want to live, she wants to thrive,” her foster mom says. “She’s a tiny powerhouse with a big personality. She gets along beautifully with my Great Dane and all the cats, and she’s already learning basic commands like sit, touch, and recall. With her special upright feedings and a lot of love, she’s doing amazingly well. I really think she’s going to make an incredible adventure dog one day.”
Today, Amora still eats in an upright position, but it doesn’t slow her down one bit. She loves playtime, snuggles, and discovering new places. She’s full of puppy mischief, quick to learn, and even quicker to love. Her journey is proof that even the smallest, most fragile lives can hold the biggest hearts—and the brightest futures—when given the chance.
Now, Amora is ready for her forever home. She needs a family who will continue her special feedings, celebrate her playful personality, and give her the life she’s been fighting so hard for.
Whether she’s curled up for a nap, following you from room to room, or trotting alongside a bigger dog like she owns the place, Amora lives every moment with joy, gratitude, and that unshakable spark that got her through the darkest days.
Amora’s recovery was made possible because friends like you believe every life is worth saving.
