Big Dog, formerly known as Reba, has come such a long way since finding her forever home with Nina. When she first arrived at ADL, Big Dog had experienced severe abuse and was understandably afraid of people. Even gentle affection and routine care felt overwhelming, and approaching her kennel or taking her for a walk could be difficult.<\/p>\n
With patience, time, and a family willing to meet her exactly where she was, Big Dog slowly began to heal.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has taken several years, but she is now trusting of her small family,\u201d Nina shared. \u201cShe has been to eight states and has even learned how to smile.\u201d<\/p>\n
Today, Big Dog is healthier, has gained weight, and has learned how to play with her sister and cousins. She loves warm blankets, a cold breeze, frozen treats, being brushed, and running out her zoomies with her sister. She is also quite the character\u2014snoring louder than an alarm clock, cuddling up in cozy blankets, and sunbathing among her<\/em> plants.<\/p>\n One of Nina\u2019s most meaningful memories came a few years after Big Dog\u2019s adoption, when Nina experienced a serious medical emergency that required surgery and several weeks of recovery. During that time, Big Dog made sure she was never alone.<\/p>\n \u201cBig Dog would come lay her head on the edge of my bed, as if to check on me and offer the comfort of her presence,\u201d Nina said. \u201cShe would stay by my side for hours, even sleeping right next to my bed.\u201d<\/p>\n Big Dog\u2019s journey has touched every member of Nina\u2019s family. She has become deeply loved by both her immediate and extended family\u2014especially her Papaw, who is known for giving her chicken jerky treats a little more often than he should.<\/p>\n \u201cBig Dog has taught all of us that being broken does not mean you have less value or can\u2019t recover,\u201d Nina shared. \u201cShe has made all of us more patient and kind.\u201d<\/p>\n Through every gentle touch, slow introduction, cozy nap, and earned moment of trust, Big Dog has shown her family just how powerful love, patience, and a safe home can be. \ud83d\udc3e<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Big Dog, formerly known as Reba, has come such a long way since finding her forever home with Nina.
