When Maria first visited ADL to meet potential pets, she had no idea she was about to meet her best friend.<\/p>\n

“I walked past his kennel, and he was just sitting there and offered his paw with the sweetest tail wag,” she recalls. “The second I saw him, I knew he was my dog, and he has been my best friend ever since.”<\/p>\n

Milo’s journey had already been remarkable. According to his records, he weighed just 36 pounds when he arrived at ACS. By the time he made his way to ADL, he had reached 51 pounds. Today, this happy, healthy boy tips the scales at 65 pounds and is thriving in his forever home.<\/p>\n

These days, Milo’s favorite place to be is cuddled up on the couch with his family. But he also keeps everyone laughing with one of his signature quirks.<\/p>\n

“Some dogs chase their tails, but Milo likes to catch his feet,” Maria says. “He’ll be playing and all of a sudden stop and try to catch his foot. He also does this when he wants to play with his sister, Evie.”<\/p>\n

While Milo wasn’t completely housebroken when he was adopted, his eagerness to learn and please made training a breeze.<\/p>\n

“He is so eager to learn and to please us, making him highly trainable,” Maria says.<\/p>\n

More than anything, Milo changed the way his family thinks about adoption.<\/p>\n

“He is the first adult dog we have adopted, and it has completely changed how we think,” she shares. “While we obviously love puppies, I think adult dogs often get overlooked or misjudged by their kennel appearance.”<\/p>\n

Today, Milo is proof that sometimes the perfect pet is the one waiting patiently for someone to give them a chance.<\/p>\n

“Milo most certainly completed our family,” Maria says. “We often stop and ask each other how we got so lucky and how he was at the shelter for so long. I think every dog like Milo deserves a chance to show how lovable they really are.”<\/p>\n
