When Captain Crunch was first found, he was barely hanging on. Though cared for as a community cat and offered regular meals from a distance, he continued to lose weight and was clearly in urgent need of help. This 2-year-old, green-eyed gentleman was eventually trapped by a compassionate Good Samaritan who uses ADL’s Community Cat T-N-R program to support the cats in her neighborhood, many of whom are neglected and left to fend for themselves. Recognizing that Captain Crunch needed more than she could provide, she made the loving decision to bring him to ADL to plea for medication, giving him a chance at the care he desperately needed.<\/p>\n
After quickly assessing Captain Crunch, our medical team offered to do more and immediately decided to take him into our care as a medical case. His condition was heartbreaking. He was covered in feces, frail, starving, and felt \u201ccrunchy\u201d to the touch from severe neglect and illness. At just 4.5 pounds, he was visibly thin, likely due to malnutrition and parasites. He had a wound on his right hip, an abscess on the side of his neck that later ruptured, significant breathing trouble due to a nose clogged with debris. Our medical team discovered painful mouth ulcers caused by calicivirus. It was clear he had a lot of fighting to do.<\/p>\n

Despite his frail body, Captain Crunch had a huge appetite and showed his sweet side to everyone he met!<\/p>\n
From the moment he arrived, he made biscuits, leaned into care, and patiently welcomed every treatment. Our medical team got to work immediately, providing antibiotics, antiviral medication, medicated breathing treatments, and over two weeks of intensive wound care. Because he was so underweight, he was offered a constant buffet of food in hopes of helping him gain strength, and to our delight, he never turned down a meal.<\/p>\n
While stress can cause upper respiratory flare-ups in pets like Captain Crunch, it\u2019s very possible his symptoms will continue to improve once he\u2019s settled into a calm, loving forever home. And, now that he\u2019s feeling better, we\u2019re focused on what he needs most to fully thrive.<\/p>\n

Today, Captain Crunch is almost unrecognizable from the frail feline who first arrived at ADL. He now weighs 8.87 pounds, nearly doubling his intake weight. His coat is full, clean, and soft, and his eyes are bright. This incredibly affectionate boy is a full-time biscuit maker who loves to show off for the staff who gave him a second chance.<\/p>\n
Captain Crunch\u2019s journey is a powerful reminder of what medical care, patience, and compassion can do. We are so thankful to his T-N-R angel for believing in him and trusting us to give Captain Crunch the chance to heal and flourish. He is now ready for the next chapter of his story.<\/p>\n
