Samuel is a 5-year-old Mastiff mix with a heart as big as his paws. When he arrived at the Animal Defense League of Texas (ADL) last October, he quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite. One look into his soulful eyes, and you\u2019ll understand why. He\u2019s calm. He\u2019s kind. He\u2019s a couch snuggler, a kid cuddler, and a friend to furry pals. Samuel is the kind of dog who doesn\u2019t just live in your home\u2014he fills it with peace, laughter, and love. But Samuel has had a rough road.<\/p>\n

He came to ADL with a complex skin condition\u2014chronic pyogranulomatous dermatitis with folliculitis and furunculosis (try saying that three times fast!). His condition is resistant to most antibiotics, and it took time, testing, and a team of vets to find a treatment that works. But through it all, Samuel has been a champ. Never grumpy. Always sweet. Always hopeful.<\/p>\n

Today, he\u2019s thriving on a manageable routine\u2014just a special diet, some medicated baths every two weeks (which he actually enjoys), and a low dose of steroids when flare-ups happen. It\u2019s not a big ask. But to some potential adopters, it\u2019s been too much. Despite his incredible personality, Samuel keeps getting passed over because of his medical history. He doesn\u2019t know that. He just keeps wagging his tail, waiting for his person.<\/p>\n
